Context:

The objective of school absenteeism monitoring system is to monitor/measure weekly absenteeism proportions in schools in order to detect alerts, identify outbreaks of influenza, and to assist decision makers on proper control measures. This system was agreed jointly by the ministry of education and high education and the ministry of public health.

Methodology:

On weekly basis, schools in Lebanon fill a form related to pupils and staff absenteeism including data on the reasons, and send the filled forms by fax to the district office of the MOPH. District teams of MOPH enter the data on local database DB, generate first report and send the local DB to the central level of MOPH. At the central level, the Epidemiological Surveillance Program, receives local DBs, generates the national DBs, analyses the data, issues the weekly tables and transmits the report to the joint committee MEHE/MOPH.
