Surveillance can be defined as the ongoing, systematic collection, verification, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of dataregarding diseases and health events to those who need to know, for use in public health action to reduce morbidity and mortality and to improve health (WHO).
The function of the epidemiological surveillance unit is to stengthen communicable diseases surveillance according to the Law of 31 December 1957.
The surveillance system is based upon the collaboration of the hospitals, health centers, dispensaries, laboratories, private clinics. Also surveillance is based upon the coordination with different health services related to different ministries: ministry of health, of social affairs, of interior, of defense…
