العامل المسبب	فيروس الحصبة الألمانية، من جنس فيروس الحصبة الألمانية (Rubivirus)، من عائلة الفيروسات الطخائية (Togaviridae)
فترة الحضانة	من 14 الى 17 يوم (وقد تكون من 14 الى 21 يومًا)
فترة العدوى	- 7 أيام قبل الطفح الجلدي ولغاية 4 أيام بعد ظهور الطفح - للاطفال المصابين بمتلازمة الحصبة الالمانية الخلقية : لعدة اشهر بعد الولادة
المستودع	الانسان
طرق الانتقال	- من شخص إلى شخص: الاحتكاك المباشر بالرذاذ - الأطفال الذين يعانون من متلازمة الحصبة الألمانية الخلقية يفرزون الفيروس في إفرازات البلعوم والبول بكميات كبيرة - من الام الى الجنين : في حال اصابة الام خلال الاسابيع العشرة الاولى من الحمل، تصل نسبة حدوث متلازمة الحصبة الالمانية الخلقية الى 90% . وتنخفض هذه النسبة الى 10-20% لغاية الاسبوع السادس عشر من الحمل. وتصبح نادرة بعد الاسبوع العشرين من الحمل
العوارض السريرية	- طفح جلدي بقعي حطاطي (maculo-papular) المصحوب بالحمى - المضاعفات : نقص الصفيحات (1/3000)، التهاب الدماغ في مرحلة ما بعد العدوى (1/6000)، ونادرًا التهاب المفاصل المزمن - التشوهات الخلقية : فقدان السمع، الساد (cataract)، صغر العينين (microphtalmia)، الزرق الخلقي (congenital glaucoma)، اعتلال الشبكية الصباغي (pigmentary retinopathy)، الرأرأة (nystagmus)، الصعل او صغر الرأس (microcephaly)، التهاب السحايا والدماغ، التخلف العقلي (mental retardation)، القناة الشريانية السالكة (patent ductus arteriosus)، عيوب الحاجز الاذيني أو البطيني (atrial or ventricular septal defects)، تشوهات قلبية خلقية اخرى، طفح فرفري (purpura)، ضخامة الكبد والطحال (hepatosplenomegaly)، اليرقان، مرض العظم الشفيف للأشعة (radiolucent bone disease)
