Jabak: the Statistics of the Ministry are Monitoring the Spread of Drugs in Schools and Universities

Minister of Public Health Dr. Jamil Jabak said that war on drugs in which we are fighting unknown soldiers is way more dangerous than the military and political war that is easy to resist. “It is the easiest way for enrichment even if it comes at the expense of the destruction of the society,” Jabak added.

Jabak noted that the parents have a great responsibility. “How can it be that a 14-year-old teenager smokes argileh? The blood of a 17-year-old boy addicted to nicotine cannot accept anything less than heroin and cocaine. The Lebanese jails are full of drugs users and dealers.”
Jabak’s statements came during an event to honor the trainees who took part in the awareness program about drug addiction in Nabatieh.

Jabak noted that the statistics of the ministry are monitoring the spread of drugs in schools, universities, cafes…”What does it mean that a 15-year-old boy smokes argileh with his friends in cafes, and then smokes two or three cigarettes? What can we expect from him at the age of 16 or 17? If addiction to nicotine started at the age of 14, then the addict will not be satisfied unless by having heroin and cocaine.

“The detainees in the Lebanese jails are crowded. The drugs dealers are arrested, but the addicts are released because their acts are considered as misdemeanors, knowing that 70 to 80% of the arrested people are addicts,” Jabak added.
