الانتحار خسارة حزينة ومؤلمة في حياة الانسان. التغطية الإعلامية للانتحار من شانها ان تقلل من الخطر او ان تحفز الأشخاص الذين لديهم أفكار انتحارية على الانتحار. وذلك بحسب الطريقة التي تمت من خلالها تغطية الخبر. لدينا جميعا دور للعب كمستخدمين لوسائل الاعلام الاجتماعية، ويجب ان نولي اهتماما دقيقا لما يلي:

✓ قبل مشاركة أي خبر او بوست، تحقق من الحقائق حول موضوع الانتحار وتجنب نشر معلومات غير دقيقة.
✓ لا تصف او تشارك صور حول الطريقة المستخدمة للانتحار.
✓ تفادى استخدام او مشاركة الصور او لقطات الفيديو او روابط وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي للحدث.
✓ لا تتكهن حول سبب الانتحار او محفزه، حتى لو تم توفيره من قبل العائلة او الأصدقاء المقربين. لا تستخدم التفسيرات المبسطة للانتحار وتجنب ربط الانتحار بعامل سببي واحد.
✓ لا تفترض او تذكر ان الأشخاص الذين حاولوا الانتحار هم ضعفاء او يحاولون جذب الانتباه.90% من محاولات الانتحار مرتبطة باضطراب صحي نفسي يمكن معالجته إذا تم تحديده ودعم الشخص للوصول الى الرعاية اللازمة. تنتج الاضطرابات النفسية عن مجموعة من العوامل البيولوجية، والاجتماعية والنفسية.
✓ انشر رقم (1564) الخط الوطني الساخن للوقاية من الانتحار "Embrace Lifeline". المشغلين مستعدين للاستماع لأي شخص يريد التكلم مع أحد او مع اشخاص قلقين على أحد ما. يمكن الاتصال بين 12 ظهرا و2 صباحا يوميا.
