Minister of Public Health Launched the National Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign

Minister of Public Health Dr. Jamil Jabak launched the National Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign to address the growing number of patients with this type of cancer and reduce delays in early detection.

During a conference held at the Ministry of Public Health, Minister Jabak noted that the campaign aims at highlighting the fact that there is great potential to prevent colon cancer if detected at an early stage.
“It is the first time the Ministry of Public Health launches a National Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign, in view of the increased number of patients with colon cancer and the late detection of this type of cancer,” Jabak said.

Jabak mentioned that colon cancer awareness is important at many levels:

First – Colon cancer is preventable because it is one of a few types of cancers that can be avoided through early detection and regular screening at a very low cost that does not exceed ten thousands LBP.

Second - Colon cancer treatment is available in Lebanon, whether through surgery, radiation or medicines.

Third- this type of cancer is curable if detected at an early stage since the recovery rate amounts to 90%, remarkably high. Moreover, early screening reduces pain of the patient and his parents.

The President of the National Committee to combat Colon Cancer Dr. Walid Ammar stated that colorectal cancer is considered as the third most common type of cancer.
