Hasbani's Office: "The Supreme Council of Health has been Established since October and Said is four Months Late"

The Information Office of Deputy Prime Minister Health Minister Ghassan Hasbani issued the following statement:

We would like to thank Dr. Fares Said for his continuous interest in healthcare matters and his saying that health Minister is genuinely seeking to achieve reform in the Lebanese Health sector. However, it seems that Dr. said missed some matters, maybe because of the numerous activities and achievements of Health Ministry.

On his twitter account, Said called on Minister Hasbani to work on the establishment of the Supreme Council of Health in order to develop a future health policy and assume his responsibilities. He also missed that the efforts exerted by Hasbani led to the establishment of the “Supreme Council of Health” four months ago, as the Cabinet has approved the on 17 October 2017 the draft law on the establishment of the council under No. 17/1/16018.

The mandate of the council is limited to a three-year period and includes: Health Minister - president of the council, the Director General of the Ministry - vice-president, and the members; the Director of the Medical Care Directorate, the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Heads of: the Lebanese Order of Physicians in Beirut and North Lebanon, the Lebanese Dental Association in Beirut and North Lebanon, the Syndicate of Pharmacists, Private hospital owners Association and the deans of: the Faculty of Medicine of the Lebanese University, the Faculty of Medicine of the AUB, the French Medical Center, representative of the Lebanese Red Cross and two representatives of  the civil sector working in the Health sector.

To avoid further mistakes, we would like to inform Dr. Said, that the Minister of Public Health reactivated the work of the insurer coordination committee that was formed ten years ago and hasn’t met since then. The Minister of Public Health presided over several meetings of this committee.
